Noise and Acoustics

The fields covered in the "Noise and Acoustics" section of the department Ergonomics Physical, Environmental Factors include the noise exposure and effects of noise, noise measurement technology and machine noise reduction, noise emissions and room acoustics along with hearing protection and physical exposure data. The focal points are:

• Determining hazards at workplaces, especially in problem areas (sound impulses, ultrasound, noise sources close to the ear)
• Consulting on noise reduction for Social Accident Insurance Institutions and enterprises
• Audibiltiy of acoustic signals in occupational noise
• Prediction of noise exposure at new workplaces by means of a computer calculation
• Noise reduction studies at machines and on tools
• Noise emission tests of machines (PDF, 1.7 MB, non-accessible)
• EC type examination of hearing protection
• Development of test procedures for hearing protection
• Creating and maintaining the selection database for hearing protection
• Hearing protector selection program for orchestra musicians
• Signal audibility when wearing hearing protectors
• Periodic tests of sound level meters
• Seminars for technical inspectors
