Fibrin Glue vs. Suture Repair in Digital Nerve Transection

Project No. FF-FR 0342

Status:

ongoing

Aims:

The current standard of care, epineural nerve suturing (control group), for restoring continuity of severed digital nerves will be compared to nerve coaptation with fibrin glue (intervention group) with regard to sensory regeneration (return of sensation).

Activities/Methods:

A prospective, randomized controlled, single-blinded clinical intervention study will be conducted at two study centers. Participants will be randomized into either a control or intervention group and will receive the corresponding surgical therapy (nerve suturing or nerve gluing). Sensory regeneration will be assessed postoperatively using primary and secondary endpoints at defined time points over a 12-month follow-up period in both therapy arms and compared.
